Acapulco Cliff Diving

Watching a high dive can be spectacular anywhere but in Acapulco it is short of impossible. That’s why after the magic wax had slowly faded away from Acapulco, the only shred of timeless magic that remained was the Acapulco cliff diving.

Acapulco had seen better years. But the now English speaking, hamburger eating Acapulco can no longer be rightfully called the “Golden Acapulco”. As once it was called during the time of Elvis, and when the place was as cool and hip as Havana.

Now all that remain of that glory days was the Acapulco cliff diving. They have been doing that since 1934 in the same majestically formed Quebrada Cliffs (which means “the break” or “the gorge”) that jut out over the Pacific Ocean. They still tempt and defy death. With acrobatics that could shame any diving Olympians, the cliff divers of Acapulco propel the air from the platform to clear away from the treacherous cliff face, and they always did -every time. Not only that. These dives are made on the fjords that are too shallow for such high dive; often the condition of the water is roughly 12 feet.  That’s why a careful anticipation of the next big crest is done that should coincide with the diver hitting the waters.

The daredevil act was once a fisherman skill. It is a practice in freeing snagged lines by taking a high dive that should take them beneath the water as fast as the dive can accommodate. This would ensure they have plenty of time to do the things needed underwater.

These local fishermen possessed great skill in diving though it was rather unheard of. When the advent of tourism in 1930 made Acapulco a hot tourist destination, these fishermen realized that their mundane diving skill could as easily earn them money faster than any fishing would do.

The dives can be viewed off in the viewing balconies where you would be charged 20 pesos which is equivalent to 2 dollars (as of Thursday, August 3, 2006). One good spot is also at the Plaza Las Glorias in El Mirador Hotel. The La Perla Restaurant which is adjacent to El Mirador Hotel is also the best spot for viewing the Acapulco cliff diving. In fact, this restaurant was built primarily for that purpose.

If you ever wonder how divers left unscathed by the waters, they don’t -at least not directly. These dives over the years take its toll on the divers. Take a look, no one’s older than 30. It’s because the countless of dives do take their toll on the skeletal structure. Shorter spines, bent and twisted shoulders and punctured eardrums now represent the image of Jorge Monico Ramirez who made his jumps one too many.

The Secret of the Acapulco Restaurant White Cheese Dip Recipe

Vacationing on Acapulco allows a dozen chances to become interested. Beaches, girls, sunshine and cliff dives. Me?  The Acapulco Restaurant White Cheese Dip Recipe

If you ever tried those tacos served in Acapulco, you’ll notice the difference from the tacos served in the US. Theirs definitely taste better. It’s neither of the tacos nor the vegetables but because of this heavenly white cheese dip that accompanies each serving. After wolfing down several platters, and a gallon of the white cheese dip, I made a mental promise to find a way to get my hands on this Acapulco restaurant white cheese dip recipe. I prayed fervently, too, that this recipe isn’t a (well) guarded secret.

And guess what? Drum rolls please. Grace favored me somehow and here the secret Acapulco Restaurant White Cheese Dip Recipe I loved so much.

You’ll never guess the facts. It was more well-known as “Chili Con Queso”. Yes, it does sound familiar now. While it was formally called white cheese dip, many menus refer it as Chili Con Queso and it’s not as obscure as one may think. In fact it appears on most Mexican menus nowadays. Though it’s a bit sour, sour cream isn’t an ingredient. So check out this Acapulco restaurant white cheese dip recipe.

Preparation:    1 cup of shredded Asadero cheese or Monterey Jack cheese
4 ounces of chopped Jalapenos OR 4 oz deveined and julienned Poblanos
1/4 cup of “half-and-half”
For you greenhorns out there, half-and-half means a mixture of half milk and half cream. So it has 10-12% milk fat and cannot be whipped.

2 tablespoon of finely chopped Onion
2 teaspoons of grounded Cumin
1/2 teaspoon of Salt
4 ounces of Green Chilies.
While some may make do without chilies, this Acapulco restaurant white cheese dip recipe requires having it. Chilies give it a distinctive Mexican flavor I guarantee you’ll love.

Cooking:    Heat all ingredients on medium. Stir occasionally.

The best part of this Acapulco restaurant white cheese dip recipe is that it takes lesser time to prepare than to write its name “Acapulco restaurant white cheese dip recipe”. Of course you may simply call it white cheese dip. But since I first tasted it in an Acapulco restaurant (that was during Spring Break), I prefer to call it my Acapulco restaurant white cheese dip recipe. So adios amigos! And have fun eating.

Just what is Acapulco Orange?

What is Acapulco Orange? No it’s not heaven in the Mexican sunshine. Neither is it the name of an Acapulco fruit though literally an orange seeded in Acapulco can be called Acapulco Orange. What is Acapulco Orange is instead the name of the recently released and self produced debut album by Infinite Helix.

Infinite Helix is a band that is composed of Madison lads who have sculpted their sound from the ground to its present level. The result of this painstakingly sculpted sound is a message of unrequited love and mayhems of politics to the streets. Sounds familiar? It is since this Madison lads have grown reveling at the shadows of legendary greats of rock music like AC/DC, ZZ Top, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Marilyn Manson, NIN, The Doors, The Who and Nirvana.

Just as eager to establish themselves as a serious act and not the usual flops, the band Infinite Helix makes it a point to do what they are required and willing to do. Such commitment can be noted with this Acapulco Orange album which only took 2 years to complete.

The music of Infinite Helix’s Acapulco Orange is nowhere the jazz and rap often paired with Mexico Acapulco. Acapulco Orange’s music “covers every plane of consciousness” or so claims the band. If anything it features rock ballads integrated with industrial electronic music. With smooth lyrical flow of Nate Polistate’s vocals and effects of T1mbot, Audric and the rest of Infinite Helix, makes that not only compliment, but also astound. Infinite Helix’s Acapulco Orange is a surefire to enthrall the fans and the skeptics and critics alike with both their rock and their intelligent, yet aggressive, rhetoric.

It is evident that Infinite Helix can make considerable waves to the rock music arena. Despite the fact that they haven’t signed a contract from a record label but still successfully delivered their music can show these young groups’s mettle.

What ever made them call their album Acapulco Orange remains a mystery; or until the band reveals how they came up with the title. But whatever it is the music of Acapulco orange does indeed deliver. Check it out at myspace.

For reference, Acapulco Orange is also a specialty cocktail recipe that consists of 1.5 ounces of tequila, ¾ ounce of Benedictine liqueur and 2 ounces of orange juice. To prepare, mix all ingredients in a shaker or blender tighter with crushed ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Acapulco Hotel Prices

Probably the hardest thing to consider when planning a vacation is choosing where to lodge. This statement is especially true in Acapulco where hundreds of excellent hotels are strewn all over the place, making choice much harder to make than to pronounce. By including hotel reviews and Acapulco hotel prices, this article should alleviate that problem.

Las Brisas Acapulco, 5-star rating
Compare Acapulco Hotel Prices: $236

For a price this expensive normally you would balk at the though of even considering Las Brisas Acapulco. But if you have the cash, Las Brisas should definitely be one of your choices if not your only choice. Even cute animals would agree, you shouldn’t be surprised if you would be (regularly) visited by squirrels. Or the birds that have the habit of staying on the gardens of the hotel.  After all that’s one of the beauty of the place.

Couples are the best bet for the setting of Las Brisas since it is very privy and romantic. Flowers complement every area, particularly hibiscus blossoms. Private dining does get very romantic indeed, especially those extras the management gives out.

Mayan Palace Acapulco, 3-star rating
Compare Acapulco Hotel Prices: $120

Mayan Palace Acapulco boasts as one of the best landscapes of Acapulco hotels, even with only a 3-star rating. Their moderate rooms still deliver though the best rooms are those that are priced higher. It shouldn’t be a cause for worries though as Mayan Palace is relatively cheap for such a beauty of the place.

Any kind of tourist can take part of the beauty of Mayan Palace. Couples and romantics, families with their rowdy children (Palace has children’s play area), couples on honeymoon (as the help of the staff for a pitched-in effort to have the best honeymoon experience), and even old travelers. And one nice aspect of Mayan Palace is also the price tag.

Mayan Palace also houses the most spectacular golf course available on the Mexican Pacific. This golf course is surrounded by lush landscapes dotted with exuberant palm trees and beautiful lakes.

Elcano Hotel Acapulco, 3-star rating
Compare Acapulco Hotel Prices: $177

It’s often a surprise when a lower rank hotel exceeded in expectation than the 5-star ones. Elcano Hotel Acapulco is one example. With spectacular views from the bay and excellent cuisine to boot, you’d be ready to give it anything than a 3-star. Immaculately pristine, Elcano hotel sparked elegance, posh and comfort all in one. This is not a nature-lover’s hotel though.

Anyone can enjoy Elcano Hotel since its design isn’t restrictive to gender, age or group specification. Youngsters and elderly alike can enjoy the view as much as the rowdy teenagers and the executives.

Timeshares in Acapulco

When the concept of timeshare was formed in Europe in the 60’s, it guaranteed habitual travelers a place for staying. Take note, these properties are real estate, though terms are somewhat different. Timeshares are forms of ownership to a vacation property, but the ownership terms are set in number of weeks or days, depending upon the agreed ownership type. Since a single property could have dozens of timeshare owners, the use and cost of running the resort, facility, room, condominium, flats or even apartments are shared among them, thereby slashing the price to minimum.

This allows timeshare owners to have a place to stay in case a revisit was made. Timeshare does save money from hotel expense especially if you see yourself frequenting a particular vacation spot. Another useful aspect of having timeshare is the ability to choose how you might use the ownership week. Since it is real estate property, you can thereby sell it or rent it if you’re not going to use it. This option allows timeshare exchange, owners exchanging their ownership weeks with other timeshare properties on thousand resorts all over the globe.

Timeshares in Acapulco boomed during the 70’s and 80’s when tourists flocked to Acapulco during its golden years. Today a good number of timeshare owners have put up their property for sale or lease as the novelty of Acapulco begins to fade.

But don’t put off your Acapulco vacation because it is still one vacation hotspot, meaning it still has the charms to make any vacation worthwhile. So if you have a timeshare anywhere for exchange or seeking to buy or rent one, then browse the selections and websites below.

www.vacationtimesharerentals.com offers a lot of timeshares in Acapulco. Whether it is selling, buying, renting or exchange there are a lot of good deals here. Mostly their selections are from the Mayan Palace Acapulco a 3-star rating moderately priced hotel.

Those planning to buy can also look at www.timesharechoices.com selection of timeshares in Acapulco. They also offer a Mayan Palace timeshares in Acapulco. Sell, rent, or buy or just view their ads.

If you’re the type that avoids hotels, then definitely check out www.timetoshare.com and their timeshares in Acapulco. A timeshare in Acapulco has a nice villa priced at $600 per week. The owner is willing to trade similar accommodations near a ski resort or other exotic vacation spots for the Christmas. Are you an owner of such? Then log on to contact this owner and for more details.

How about some Snorkeling in Acapulco?

Who says snorkeling is only on the Bahamas? Mexico’s Acapulco does offer a lot in terms of snorkeling too. Though the most ideal spots are accessible by motorized boats alone, once you get the chance to rent (or procure it by other means) you would be grateful for the effort.

Probably the best place for snorkeling in Acapulco is in Isla la Roqueta. Here the water can be as deep as 30 feet but you’d be convinced it is nowhere more than 10 feet since the water is exceedingly crystal clear. Take a glass bottom boat if you can to maximize your snorkeling in Acapulco experience. Isla la Roqueta may not offer much in terms of corals and marine diversity but it do have an endless patch of marine vegetation that house multitudes of fishes. Isla la Roqueta DO has plenty of fishes to see. Even just by skimming the surface, schools of them will pass any swimmer often, completely unafraid. And don’t forget to seek the submerged statue of the Lady of Guadalupe.

You could head also to Puerto Marques for your snorkeling in Acapulco experience. This snorkeling location is located 15 kilometers southeast of Acapulco. You can either take a boat or drive down the coastal highway and take a turnoff the road. This is also a frequent area so there are persons who do ‘watches’ for your car and stuffs for a dollar. Anything should be safe, but it is generally advised not to bring highly valuable items. Keep stuffs like purses and black bags out of site. In the trunk or anywhere as long as it remains hidden from plain site.

Puerto Marques provides an excellent snorkeling in Acapulco experience. Noted mostly for its shallow and clear waters, Puerto Marques do offer an interesting aquatic habitat.

Playas Caleta & Caletilla is the best place to gaze at the Mexican diversity and culture. Listen to a guitar tune, drink a cerveza, and try the white cheese dip and a tortilla, and of course a snorkeling in Acapulco experience. Gorgeous scenery underwater and above, calm waters and lots and lots of colorful fun, that’s why Playas Caleta & Caletilla is Acapulco’s most traditional beach.

The sunken ship Rio de la Plata makes an excellent underwater scenery, just perfect for snorkeling. This sunken ancient ship lies in the waters of Icacos located in the Zona Dorada. Don’t miss this underwater spectacle, but be sure you know how to swim to a moderate depth.

Too bad, just like in Isla la Roqueta, other sites for snorkeling in Acapulco couldn’t get any better. Due to the number of native bathers that hardly responsible that frequented the area, these marine habitats suffered dearly. Still, by government restoration and strict laws, this snorkeling place credits among the best Acapulco experience.

The Cheap Best Hotels in Acapulco

Vacationing though always refreshing could get very exhausting money-wise. Sometimes, hotels tend to cost so much that nothing is literally left for you to spend on other activities. So how about trying those cheap hotels in Acapulco that practically costs only a zilch without sacrificing comfort, peace and style? These hotels in Acapulco leave you enough cash to do away with the snorkeling and yachting activities –just the way you planned it back home.

Gold comes to those who wait. Just a little seeking and always there’s something over the next hill. So don’t fret about budget, instead worry how to organize those trips since with hotel selection such as these, it’s a guarantee that you won’t be spending more than you should be. Here are the best cheap hotels in Acapulco.

Etel Suites
Cerro de la Pinzona, 92
Fraccionamiento Las Playas
Acapulco Mexico 39390
Average price: $62

The Etel Suites may not be luxurious, but that’s not the point. It is a good value hotel with everything in place. The apartments of Etel Suites are very spacious and the furnishing boasts distinctly of the Mexican spirit, truly a magnificent throwback of the Elvis ‘Fun in Acapulco’ days. One more beauty of Etel Suites is its location that overlooks the famous La Quebrada Cliffs.

Hotel Los Flamingos
Av. López Mateos
Fraccionamiento Las Playas
Acapulco Mexico 39390
Average price: $67

Why did Johnny Weismuller, John Wayne, Cary Grant, Red Skelton, Fred McMurrayld and the rest of the Hollywood gang made Hotel Los Flamingos their hangout? Because Hotel Los Flamingos is truly epic. No trendy stuff, no luxurious suites, no stereotypical Americanized Acapulco. Los Flamingos was loved because for only $67 you got to experience authentic Acapulco spirit.

Boca Chica
Playa Caletilla,
Acapulco Mexico 39390
Average price: $76

Boca Chica was one of those hotels in Acapulco that doesn’t necessarily provide you with everything –for a reason. So don’t expect a telephone or even a clock. Boca Chica is all about genuine Mexican atmosphere, and these are the things that should be taken away to truly enjoy the atmosphere. Visit this wonderful place and throttle back in time.

Hotels pricing do get ludicrously high especially on vacation hotspots such as Acapulco. But that doesn’t mean there’s an absence of good value hotel. Ads and commercials always feature hotels that have high prices. In such cases you only need is to so start looking at the background and see if you can find those really good value hotels.

Acapulco Nightlife

The pasts always mention of the Old Golden Days of Acapulco where men dance and frolic without the sun. And it was truly the golden days when Old Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra could not get enough of the Acapulco nightlife in his classic hit of “Come fly with me”. Elvis Presley couldn’t either, with his big screen portrayal of Mike Windgren in “Fun in Acapulco”.

Even then, Acapulco isn’t adventure. It isn’t the Rockies or the Bahamas. It is life under the hot lights of dry ice and fireworks; Tarzan on a coat and tie; and the ever immaculate 007 when he was still licensed to kill. Acapulco is always about stars and glamour and nightlife.

Acapulco nightlife is still the middle-of-the-road of Acapulco today. Tourist head for this part of Mexico for the Mexican party and the Acapulco nightlife because there’s not much to be seen.

But with clubs like The Palladium, Enigma, and Disco Beach, Acapulco nightlife does deliver the best party experience that is not to be imitated anywhere. Just try the Palladium and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Truly Acapulco nightlife hasn’t lost its charm, or rather its magic. From discotheques to bars to all-night clubs, Acapulco has everything you might want to spend your night. Slick and sleazy bars and fancy nightclubs have replaced the old huts that used to litter the capitol streets of Zocalo. So if you’re heading this part of Mexico, don’t fancy a tropical paradise filled with lush vegetation and fabulous nature sights. Rather sleep your whole day in a posh hotel like The Elcano and mosey your nights through the town’s bars and clubs for a superlative Acapulco nightlife experience.

Here are the bars and clubs in town I can highly suggest:

The Palladium
www.acapulcopalladium.com
Located on a high Las Brisas Hillside, The Palladium reigns high and supreme from all other bars and clubs in town possibly even the world. If the experience of being suspended in the mid-air above the Acapulco Bay doesn’t seem to excite you, the music and the wild fun that is held every night should get your pulse working.

Mandara Acapulco
www.acapulcomandara.com
Formerly known as Enigma, few clubs offer what Mandara Acapulco has to offer. Club Mandara still offers the best audio and lighting experience, but what Mandara boasts of is the Privado experience. Privado is the after party Acapulco nightlife experience that starts filling after 6am and lasts even after 12pm. After watching the sunrise in the Mandara dance room, head to the next room to enjoy another phase of the Acapulco nightlife (or daylight) experience.

The Palladium in Acapulco

Before the Palladium years, Acapulco was also golden. It was star spangled. It was everything the hippies want on their souvenir photo. The glitterati jet-set here to dance. Elvis Presley came here to dance, and to sing in a silver screen called “Fun in Acapulco”.

It was fun in Acapulco. Old Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra sang it in a classic Come Fly With Me. It was where Johnny Weismuller, John Wayne, Cary Grant, Red Skelton, Fred McMurrayld and the rest of the Hollywood gang made their hole in Los Flamingos to drink cerveza.

Now, it is Palladium years. And Acapulco is still golden. It still shines as bright as ever in the night, though it is dull in the day. The glitterati made way to the gay, the elderly, the families and the students and their spring vacation. Now, the only vestige of Mexico is the cliff divers, aside from that, it is hamburgers and fries and English speaking cabs.

The Palladium in Acapulco is the best place to go in Acapulco. Gone where the hip and the songs, in its place are the techno and the loud blaring disco that is 100% Acapulco. So don’t miss it the Palladium in Acapulco, even if it’s a one-day vacation.

The Palladium in Acapulco sits in a high cliff on the road from Mandara. Atop its perch the lovely view of the Acapulco Bay can be seen on floor to ceiling glass walls. On the mornings it is fabulous. On the evenings it is magnificent. And on sunrise it is simply divine. So don’t leave early, it not often you’re going to see the most breathtaking sunrise in your whole life.

There are thousands of reasons that will make you stay. Dancing gets exciting at 11pm (with the help of beer of course). At 3:30 a silver-costumed devil appears. He gets the crowd going. He dances, does acrobatics and stuff. He may be the highlight of the night but it is the crowd that gets wild that makes you going. So in a few words: Don’t Leave Early.

The Palladium in Acapulco hosts open bar. With the entrance of 40$, you could get all the drinks you want inside. Don’t worry about sicking up. The restrooms are prepared for such. And oh, every Thursday it’s lady’s night -only $10 for each lady. But don’t arrive too late. I hear girls outnumber the boys’ 10:1.

It is the Palladium in Acapulco that remade it into golden still. It is the Mexican hype. If you’re going to Acapulco, then take a tour at the museum for the Mexican history, the Palladium in Acapulco for the Mexican spirit.

Have Fun in Acapulco!

If you’re in for the greatest vacation experience then I would strongly suggest Acapulco. Here in the Pearl of the Pacific, having fun comes naturally. Even if you’re the most drawn and laidback type, the spirit of excitement will affect you in many ways you’ll never know. And you will be hopelessly drawn into such an adventure which can never be duplicated anywhere.

What are those adventures that make Acapulco great?

Cliff Diving
Cliff diving is Acapulco’s most famous attraction, enough said. These dives take place in La Quebrada which means “The Break”, which could also mean ‘a deep chasm’ since that is what it literally is. Against a hundred feet of uneven sharp rocks, a miscalculation could prove fatal. That’s why these clavadistas (cliff divers) are a sight to behold. Propelling horizontally in a swan dive to clear the cliff face a gorgeous vertical dive then follows that should coincide exactly the approach of a wave, that is how an Acapulco cliff dive takes place. And take note that the waters of La Quebrada are shallow, that’s why anticipation for the next big wave is of utmost importance.

Looking at those divers is enough to take your breath away. If not the landscape would. La Quebrada is majestically formed, especially at sunset where these towering rocks will cast regal shadows over the fjord below.

Pie de la Cuesta

Pie de la Cuesta is a quiet strip of land roughly 6 miles northwest of Acapulco that redefines cool fun in Acapulco. Extremely tranquil and amazingly painted sunsets are the masterpieces of Pie de la Cuesta. A few other places can be as soothingly tranquil, but no other can match the serenity. If you find the Olowalu Turtle Reef in Maui heavenly, you will be pleased with Pie de la Cuesta. They are both bordered on an ethereal plane.

The Laguna de Cuyoca is the best place for bathing. This freshwater lagoon has surprisingly clear and gentle water; too tranquil that sometimes you could go for a nap in its waters! On the opposite side of this soothing lagoon is the contrasting fiery sea. The surf is directly fed by the Pacific Ocean. Word of caution, the waves here are really strong. Many accidents happened because of carelessness, so take extra caution if you decide to have fun in Acapulco by surfing.

Zocalo
Having fun in Acapulco doesn’t mean you got to spend every time away from the crowd. You have to witness the place’s distinct flavor, the culture that evolves from the early glories of native Indians. Zocalo is perfect for that experience. Zocalo is Acapulco’s town square, Acapulco’s capital.

So don’t just read or watch these Acapulco adventures. Let’s go for the biggest fun in Acapulco. Guaranteed you’ll enjoy every minute of it. Take part of this awesome adventure.

Flights.com Flights to Acapulco

Flights.com has been a leading online airfare booking the past ten years. Why? Simply because they offer the cheapest possible tickets when you book on Flights.com. These Flight.com personnel have direct contacts to the majority of airline companies and they have negotiated and haggled for those tickets you can book. So when they hand you your flight ticket, it is reasonably cheaper than when you apply with other online ticket bookings.

Consolidator Tickets of Flights.com

Flight.com also offers specialized airline ticket bookings. One such specialized feature is the Consolidator Ticket. These consolidator tickets are flights tickets with prices that are notably slashed down when certain criteria have been met. Once a consolidated ticket reservation is made, these fares are exactly the same as a full price ticket. But when these consolidated tickets have gone enough volumes, Flights.com will offer this as a “bulk fare” as an incentive to fill a flight’s extra capacity. So consolidated tickets can be as cheap as saving 70% of the cost of a regular airfare.

But consolidator tickets have limited availability since they are treated as bulk bookings to fill a flight’s extra capacity. Also, consolidator tickets can carry a high penalty in case a change of booking is requested. Consolidator tickets are also non refundable. So Flights.com expects the ticket carrier to honor the deal.

So for your flights to Acapulco, always choose Flights.com. It’s a guarantee you’ll always be receiving the better end of the bargaining stick.

Flights.com for your flight to Acapulco

Flights.com is relatively easy to use. To apply for an online book for a flight to Acapulco, just log on their website (click on this link: www.flights.com). You’ll be redirected to the page where you can book your flight to Acapulco. Just type the place of your departure on the Departure slot (next to the tag ‘From:’). Now type your destination which is Acapulco in the Arrival slot (next to the tag ‘To:’). Choose your flight options whether be it a roundtrip ticket, one way or non-stop. Non-stop generally costs a bit higher but you arrive more swiftly. Next choose your class seating. There are three choices: economy, business and first class. You might as well include the traveler party, specifying the travelers’ age groups. At the bottom of the window you can select a specific airline company. But in order to compare the best prices, leave it on default (‘All’) for the meantime.

Flights.com also offers booking services for cruises and hostels. They also have a link to car rentals. And you can easily plan trips to those vacations spots you will be visiting with Fights.com guides section.
